The Mystery of Rosalia’s Eyes
Rosalia Lombardo (December 13, 1918 in Palermo, Italy – December 6, 1920), was an Italian child who died of influenza. Rosalia’s father, Official Mario Lombardo, was sorely grieved upon her death, so he approached Alfredo Salafia, a noted embalmer, to preserve her. Her body was one of the last corpses to be admitted to the Capuchin catacombs of Palermo in Sicily.
Several time-lapse photos exist (second gif) where she appears to be opening and closing her eyes, showing an opening of at least 1/8 of an inch, revealing her intact blue eyes underneath. The most likely cause of this rather creepy phenomenon is changes in room temperature yet it’s fueled many cult believes of Rosalia’s spirit returning to the body.
She is well known as the ‘Sleeping Beauty,’ the world’s most beautiful mummy.
